The Raiders are delighted to announce that our 2021/22 season charity partner will be the local Children’s Charitable Trust, Strongbones, who are this year celebrating 20 years of caring.

Strongbones Children’s Charitable Trust is a national registered charity set up to provide emotional and practical support, increase inclusion by providing disability equipment and educational opportunities including workshops and facilities. They also provide support for parents and carers, access to sports and activities and family interaction days for the benefit of children and young people under the age of twenty one who have complex needs and also a diagnosis of a serious muscular skeletal condition such as scoliosis, bone cancer, scoliosis or spina bifida.

The 20 years experience has allowed them to assist children and their families with guidance on how to make their conditions more manageable and enhance their quality of life to an optimum level.

The aim is to encourage children and young people with lifelong medical conditions to grow by supporting them and their families and carers by allowing each young person to gain experience as individuals enriching their lives through, inclusion, stimulation, inspiration and education.

Based opposite the site of the Raiders former home on Rom Valley Way a Strongbones spokesperson had this to say about the partnership “Strongbones Children’s Charitable Trust is extremely happy to have been chosen by the Raiders as their chosen charity for the 2021/22 season. We are excited to be working in partnership to be creating a more inclusive society for young wheelchair users and giving them the ability to access wheelchair inclusive sports.

Strongbones supports some of the most vulnerable children in the UK who have been shielding throughout the pandemic, as you can imagine it has been extremely isolating for them which is why we are so keen to be organising outdoor pursuits for our children such as skiing, abseiling, canoeing, adapted bike riding, zip lining, adapted surfboarding and paddle boarding.”

As is now the normal, the Raiders will be wearing special jerseys throughout the season for warm up in aid of Strongbones and these will be available to sponsor, in addition as is now customary, a chosen fixture in the league schedule will be set aside for Strongbones to come to the Sapphire to raise additional much needed funds for the charity with the team wearing those special jerseys for the entire game……although we think we may be seeing more from members of Strongbones throughout the season if their first visit and experience of ice hockey is anything to go by.

We are delighted to be working with a local children’s charity and look forward to welcoming as many of the children, siblings, parents and carers who are associated with the charity as well as the staff members to the Sapphire throughout the entire season……….Raiders faithful, please give them a huge welcome
