Raiders stake their claim to top 5

January 9, 2023

Having recently highlighted the Raiders win-free record against top 5 teams, they then go and beat two top 5 teams in the same weekend.

A 29 game, 29 point record before the weekend and 6th place in an 11 team league suggested Raiders were mathematically the “perfect” average team! 🙂 . That was before a determined 5-6 win in Swindon and a dominant 6-3 victory over league title hopefulls MK Lightning at Romford’s Sapphire on Sunday evening.

That encouraging weekend was despite being without the recovering Harry Gulliver and the inspiring Ashley Jackson suggesting that Raiders fans can expect more top 5 success in the coming weeks. Raiders sit just 2 points behind Swindon now, with a game in hand over their Wiltshire rivals.

An away / home double header weekend with improving league newbies Bristol Pitbulls beckons for 14/15th January whilst Swindon face a resurgent Bees on Friday 13th and a double header of their own against the Steeldogs over the 14/15th in what will be a gruelling weeked after their single game losing weekend against the Raiders.

Raiders follow their Bristol double header with a Basingstoke double header in what the form book would suggest should be 8 secure points. If only life and hockey were that simple………..

Swindon cap the same forthnight with a game vs resurgent Hull and one against dominant Leeds.
