Raiders Announce Imports

July 5, 2018

Everyone Active Raiders have announced deals for imports Martin Jakubek and Juraj Huska for the 2018/19 National League South One season, writes Jacob Ranson.

The 25-year-old forward Jakubek joins the club from Slovakian outfit MHK Dubnica where he has spent the last season and a half and helped them gain promotion to Slovakia Division Two.

Jakubek progressed through the junior teams of HK Dukla Trencin, the same club as his uncle Pavol Demitra, before going on to play in all three tiers of the Slovakian leagues amongst other ventures in Czech Republic, Poland and Germany.

He said: “I want to say only, I hope this season will be good for me and all team and I will do all I can do for my team mates, fans, and other people in the Raiders organisation.”

Huska returns for fifth season in gold and blue and is keen to add some more silverware to his growing collection.

The 36-year-old led the Raiders scoring with 63 points (32 goals, 31 assists) in 44 matches and was named to the NIHL South All Star second line with new team-mate Aaron Connolly.

Huska has won the league’s scoring race four times and originally joined the Raiders in the 2010/11, helping them to a league and cup double.

Huska then moved to Invicta for two seasons and to Chelmsford for two seasons, where he picked up more league, cup and play-off winners’ medals.

“The new team look pretty good to me so far,” Huska said.

“We have young good players and some skills players, some new players with experience from this league, so if we pull together I think we could have good results this year.

“My expectations are always high. We could finish probably top three this year. So my hopes are to win some trophies for Raiders supporters again.”

Huska is ranked as the fifth higher points scorer in the club’s all-time history with a tally of 242 goals and 201 assists for a total of 443 points in 186 appearances in the gold and blue jersey.

With rumours for the past few seasons about his imminent retirement Huska again was non-committal, adding: “I can’t say it now if this is my last season or not.”
