Raiders add some additional Blue Line strength

February 4, 2021

With the Raiders having recieved their acceptance into the spring cup series of the NIHL National League we are delighted to start the reveal of some of the back room works in preparation for the planned participation.

Raiders are pleased to announce the signing of 20 year old Ben Solder who played in the Chelmsford junior system and played in every age group at UK Conference, before gaining experience abroad from 2015.

Ben joins from Islanders Hockey Club based in Tynsberg Massachusetts playing in the US Premier Hockey League where he has made 10 appearances this season picking up 6 assists. This season is Ben’s sixth season playing in North America, playing initially for Ontario Hockey Academy at AA and AAA levels and also in HEO and PHSF leagues making a total of 214 appearances scoring 38 goals and 68 assists for 106 points proving that he can also add to the offence.

Ben then moved to Islanders HC where he made 48 appearances scoring 5 goals and 25 assists for 30 points.

Ben has represented Great Britain at four  Junior World Championships representing the Under 18s in 2016 and 2017, winning a Gold Medal in 2017 alongside Callum Burnett and coached by Sean Easton, and then moved up to Under 18 for the 2018 and 2019 tournaments, winning Silver and Bronze medals.

Sean Easton is pleased to see Ben back in the UK

“I have known Ben since he started skating at Chelmsford, coming through the junior ranks. Ben Unfortunately has been a covid victim which hampered his progress in the States, which left him no choice but to return to the UK.

“Every cloud has a silver lining and Raiders have been able to pick up Ben who is an excellent smooth skating offensive D man. He’s good on the puck and happy to join the offensive play.

“Ben has been part of the GB U18S & U20S programme for the past 4 years where I was fortunate to be able to be reunited as part of the national coaching team.”

Ben is keen to get going

“I’m very happy to sign with the Raiders for the upcoming shortened season. I’m so grateful to be able to play hockey in this difficult time period.

“I think as a team we can do great things and cant wait to get going and get after it with the boys!”

Welcome to the Raiders Ben!
