Barry back for another season

July 15, 2021

Raiders traditional Thursday announcement reinforces the consistency theme to the squad with the re-signing of #55 Sean Barry. Sean makes a welcome return to Sapphire as home ice for a fifth season on  the Raiders D.

Sean progressed through the Chelmsford junior system before making his senior debut for the Warriors at the age of 16, for whom he made 46 appearances in total picking up 17 assists.

He made his Chieftains debut at the age of 18 in 2012/13 and quickly became a permanent fixture on the Chelmsford defence , being an ever present in two of his four consecutive  league winning years. In addition he picked up  play off and cup competition winners medals. In total Sean made 160 Chieftain appearances scoring 4 goals and picking up 50 assists for 54 points before his move to the Raiders .

Sean was one of seven Ironmen in 2019/20 and has not missed a game since the end of September 2018; a run of 102 consecutive appearances. In total Sean has made 154 appearances  (ranked 38th overall) and has scored 10 goals and 61 assists for 71 points in all competitions ( ranked 90th overall).  This includes a career high 33 points in the 2019/20 season (two goals and 31 assists)

Sean is another who just cannot wait to get the hockey drought behind him:-

“Yes it seemed like a seriously long time before we hit the ice for a competitive game (in the Spring Cup). It was a bit strange that no one was allowed in the building. The first few games had a “training” atmosphere.

“Every game in that Spring Cup, was tough. I think when we beat Telford and Swindon were the highlights for me.

“Great news that all restrictions have gone from the 19th, and I think it’s been a relief hearing this news for many people across the country and I’m looking forward to seeing a packed out sapphire in September.

“The spring cup has helped us massively, as where we need to be as a team and where we would like to get too also.”

Sean Easton has worked with Sean for many years and summarised this defensive workhorse:-

“Sean has a calm head on his shoulders.

“He plays with maturity and smarts that means he can make plays in pressured situations.

“Sean’s first pass sets our forwards on their way and he’s comfortable joining offensive rushes when needed.”

Welcome back #55 Sean Barry
